Back in Feb., I thought it would be cool to set up a local sw tank. I collected sand/mud and oyster shells from a local bay. I transported them back to the house in tubs with water from the bay. I set them up in a 40g tank with a fluval 205 cannister filter, penguin 200 biowheel power filter, powerhead, and sea-clone 100 skimmer. It's lighted with a coral life compact flor w/ led moon lights. I was planning on letting it run for a month or so before adding any legal locally collected live stock. To my surprise, all kinds of life started to appear. Multitudes of crabs, shrimp, and a few small fish came out of the oyster shells. The largest crabs were the size of a quarter, but look at them now!!!

I know they are getting pretty tasty looking!!!! The blue crab is 6" from point to point, and the stone crabs claw is about commercial lrg size

sorry for the blurry picts. My LCD screen got cracked on a hunting trip so I can't see what I'm shooting. Too cheap to buy a new camera yet....money better spent on more tanks and fish.

thats awesome

while I don't support harvesting from the wild without permission I must say I am jealous of the nice live stock you got from doing so.

I asked our local game warden what was legal to collect and what permits were needed, so everything was legal with just my fishing license. Luckily we have some extremely fertile flats here in TX. Also, the oyster shells were all dead off parts of a periodically dry reef.

You get those from Galveston? or somewhere near the Ship Channel?
