I think HITH is very common with large cichla - i'd never sit and slate him as a fish keeper because his fish picked up something which they're very succeptable too.

My fish have had it, my system is large and well filtered with plenty of water change and a UV on it.

Too many keepers here that have monster cichla with out HITH to say they are susceptible to it. IMO it happens when something is off in their environment. Ken, Artty, Hu, G, Myself, and others have had or have 20"ish fish without it. Not "slating" him, this is a media section that we have an open forum to talk and learn why some big fish get it.

Dang if u click on his page u can see them after they all died pretty sad to see that many beauties laid out dead like that......

agreed, none of my huge bass have had hith..also, reminds me of john ptc..none of his had hith either..and his were friggin HUGE!

Should have this topic on a separate thread or maybe not.
When I first started cichla I had my fair share of HITH. Over the years with evolution of filtration and hobbiest, I think there have been improvements that allow cichlas to be HITH free. For those who have HITH on juvis, you got a lot of homework to learn the basics. For larger cichlas you got to kick everything up a notch as an advance keeper.
Unfortunately, flaming from self proclaimed experts have prevented many to speak freely or come forward to help advance the hobby. Dealers have been accused of only trying to make money off members. Such sad accusations. One thing for sure, the proof is in the fish one shows. Exercise PM is always an option for help.
