or you could go with a HUGE knife and get an aba aba. I Love how many species of knife fish they're are out they're, hopefully one day I'll come across a super rare one

Aba aba and community don't go together whatsoever. They shred anything including sponge filters

yes I agree, but they are huge and I could live with just having one fish in a tank if it was that one

The point of this thread was for the guy looking to buy a knifefish for a community, not a snackbar :)

I took a loooong detour from finding a knife fish for my 1100g. Somehow, I wound up with a bd ray, platinum gar, a giant eel, and some lapraedi koliba bichirs!!!

So, the Goldline knifes are Endangered and pretty much unavailable to the hobby. I'm bummed.

What about a large tiger knife? They get almost 18" and are pretty stout.

mattmez mattmez any thoughts?

Gold lines are most definitely not endangered. They're actually pretty common all over a lot of South America, but are rarely imported because there's never really been a market for them.
Gymnotus are a bit easier to find, though and several species get to a couple feet long. There's one monster species from Southern Brazil/Argentina (see photo), but again, highly unlikely that one would ever be imported.Gym_aeq.jpg

What about a nice afer/reticulated knife, hit and miss community wise bit definitely available and worth a thought.
Coolest looking of all the knifes in my opinion and can hit 30".
