no mistake, that is a very large lei,
it would've bin somewhere in the dawson river,
well thats my guess. I've seen and caught them to a meter twenty.
fish to a meter are not that rare if you know where to find them.
very interesting anyway.

No mate not Fizroy/Dawson Sunshine coast hinterland.
The largest Leichardti measured by S H Midgley was 1 meter and is the largest recorded (it was he who did the original translocation into Borumba) He is a co author of Field guide to the freshwater fishes of Australia. Check the references. Out of many hundreds of Leichardti I have caught in the last 38 years and many hundreds I have seen caught I have seen 6 fish over 90 cm the largest 96cm. This includes the broodstock kept my many other people who breed them. I would dearly love to see a pic of a 120 even a 1 meter+ .

Sorry my bad osteoglossids is the general name for bonytongue fish so, covers everything from arapaima through all the different types af arowana, so what i just said doesnt make sense.

What i meant to say was i think its an Osteoglossum or silver aro, not a leichardti, but i could easily be wrong.

lol - you catch me a wild silver aro in Australia and I'll pay you $20k.

That would have been an absolute monster lei, pushing well over a metre for sure.

Wow nice find.

Steve

Wow big fish!!

That is a giant Arowana regardless what species it is!
