Monster Loach

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What makes you think that it's wild caught? Unless its extremely gravid, it's simply a very large and fat (obese) clown loach. Typically most adult wild caught loaches in the 10+ inch range are long and slender, shaped more like hot dogs, they don't look anything like the loach shown in that photo.
I'm not doubting you but could you show everyone a ten inch confirmed wild caught and a ten inch confirmed captive raised?

The vast majority of clown loaches in the hobby are wild caught, but they typically go from little wild skinny 2"-21/2" fish, to big fat porkers over years of being spoiled on a high protein/high fat diet in captivity. (I've been guilty of this myself) Wild caught adult specimens, even larger fish such as 10+ are typically always long and slender. You can find plenty of pics of captive raised adult porkers on google, youtube, etc, as you can adult wild caught. Plenty pics of both can be found here on MFK as well if you search this folder and others.

Here's a past thread of mine that will get you started.....

Post #4 shows some wild CL's collected in Sumatra, where the vast majority of the large CL's are collected as unlike Kalimantan there is no export restriction on their size in Sumatra. The largest in that pic is 10".
