I love the big coloful haps as well. I'm growing out a fusco, polystigma, T. nigriventer, and livingstonii now. I love their sleek and metallic look.
 
flowerhorns are too slow to fight with africans. mbuna seem to be some of the fastest cichlids that i have seen. they seem to just appear on the other side of the tank. my biggest hap is a c. moorii the blue dolphin. that is the only african i have in my NW tank. it is a cool fish that plays in the powerhead currents and the bubbles. but it isn't mean enough to be in my mbuna tank

Those flowerhorns were the only ones that were ever greeted with that level of hostility. I also believe its very possiable that the wives tales about new world and old world body language being different might also explain this.
