Hi SharptoothBass, is it difficult to breed them in tanks?
Yea i have seen some over 26 inches in the fish markets. Also see them on the net larger than 26. They have been caught up to 3 feet in the mekong river i have never seen them that large raised in tanks. What really hurts them is that they are one of the hightest priced freshwater food fish in asia so they are usually eaten before they can really max out. Good thing is they do great in fish farms as the main food fish or to keep other food fish like tilapia in check. MARBLE SLEEPER GOBYS rule my favorite fish for almost 20 years.
Yes it is very difficult they dont form a bonded pair they have vicious fight before and after breeding. Then hes tries to kill her as soon as she is finish. They also have the smallest fry i have ever seen, even smaller than my purple spot gudgeons. I have breed all kind of cichlids dovii,hatians,cubans,feste,firemouths,jd's,convicts,red tiger motos and many more. It has taken me almost 20 years to successfully breed and raise MARBLE SLEEPER GOBYS i have one 3 inches largest i have raised.
