since when did tumors become a fashion statement?
i'm sorry but I am sick of seeing these demented FUGLY fish everyday.

If it can't survive on it's own in the wild it doesn't deserve to suffer in an aquarium!

Did you even read my statement, Bsixxx? Distinguish between "wen growth" and "tumor". In short, you are mistaken. That is not tumor. It is called a wen growth, no different from kok in flowerhorns. It is simply a deposit of proteins and fatty acids due to the diet given.

And who says these fish were intended to survive in the wild? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Ever heard of that? These fish have been selectively bred in Japan over decades. It is Japan's creative artwork. It doesn't have to be a "fashion statement". You just learn to appreciate how they are selectively bred carefully. Of course, this is done carefully so it in itself will not become a hindrance to the normal body functions of the fish which some of you seem to blindly think otherwise. I do not believe these fish are "suffering" at all contrary to what you think.

The original wild forms were simply hibunas or common goldfish. A lot of goldfish strains have been labeled as not "normal" several decades back but as they have garnered recognition, they are now even included in goldfish shows with standard guidelines set.

You cannot just single out the selectively bred goldfish and there is no justification in there to compare them to the wild forms of goldfish. They have evolved for decades and are not meant to live in the wild. So how do you justify it yourself that any fish that cannot survive in the wild, should not be allowed in the tank or rather what makes you think the goldfish is "suffering" in the tank? How about balloon mollies, shortbodied cichlids and many other fancy variants that some people seem to think are "suffering"?
