The lake they were looking at is lake of the ozark its near my house.the lake is fed by a heated spring that's always 59-60 degrees.the lake gets much colder except the spring fed area.unless the piranhas returned to the spring fed end of the lake during winter it wouldn't make it. I have seen a photo of a actual piranha that was caught there it wasn't a pacu.supposedly piranhas have been caught there the last 3 years in a row.it sure would be nice to go right up the road to get me some local wild stock but highly unlikely.lol. Someones turned some pets loose n fishermen have caught the extremely hungry pets.or the whole piranha in ozark lake is just BS! This is exactly why hobbyists n wannabe hobbyists should NEVER turn pets loose!its a good way to get our beloved piranhas banded in more states! All we need is a couple lawmakers cryn from untrue n misinformed reports n our fish could be in jeopardy!oh n don't look at me!I haven't turn sh%t loose!lol

woah, good to have a local who really knows whats goin down.

Its highly unlikely that they live there very long, but it possible! N I doubt a 1' long piranha would have much to worry about in lake of the ozark, it would be right up there at the top of the food chain. Its not like there's 4' muskies in there.(to far south) n I don't think a largemouth bass would be much of a threat to a large piranha.

i really hate when these shows do specials on piranha cause they never show that it is really not a bloodthirsy beast they always try to imply that piranha are maneaters which is total BS and really makes me mad i think someone should do a show on how piranha are really not what they are made out to be...... also its total crap that piranha can live in northern swamps/lakes/and rivers i feel that most states cannot sustain temps to allow p's to live during the winters i think most of the laws wouldnt have been passed to ban them if legislaters wernt so ignorant and would just do some fricken research before they go banning species

also even if they could survive the cold they wouldnt be able grow or breed because they need a higher temp to do so..

That does sound like something you would do. lol, nah, i'm kidding. Thanks for some info on that lake though. I can totally see young hobbyist letting their pets lose though.

If can't sell em their fish food! Why would I jeopardize the fish I keep n breed?I think a couple of em they caught were actually pacu though.they can't tell the difference. Lol
