  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all the way through it was almost as if the aro was parading its prey to you, almost like showing it off to you. at least thats the impression i got.
an interesting vid, about as close to nature as we can achieve for these fish.

Did it finally swallow it, or spit it out?

As you could see Gandalf is alpha around here. He parades his kill, taking his time, even stopping for publicity shots. Yes my son the three plus foot, five year old, is a conceited bastard. Just in the time the pond has been up, we have made quite a few amazing discoveries into the lost Amazonian secrets. Hidden just below the Amazons muddy wake lie the major parts of the most diverse ecosystem on the entire planet. The lands have been born again and again with vain attempts to learn the rivers secrets. In the sense that the knowledge being sought is even the most basic understandings of how each fish breeds or feeds, who does it feed, etc.etc. Even with all the giant Amazon exhibits around the globe, the time must be spent to understand why these do this and how or where they go. Just below the Rivers murky waters surface, never seen species participate in the activities we can only begin to fathom. There is no Arowana bible that has the natural behavior, breeding, courting, feeding, hunting or detailed parental roles. even in Asia silvers are bred for the pet trade in muddy ponds. They put the adults into muddy water and after sometime the care takers seine net the pond and rob the fathers of their new young. Here are three different reputable groups who try using their charges as a link to the unreachable secrets. We have began our own unclouded attempt to make sense out of the fish in the pond. The social pecking orders or lack of social knowledge. What is it in birds as a food that the Aros find important. What are they getting from it? Maybe nothing, but I've watched family units build themselves seamlessly in species thought not to have any social allegiance. Hopefully I have shed some light on some of the ideas I'm trying to share with the world. To actually answer your question it all stayed down for two days. He was bloated and happy. On the third day, I found the pond covered in feathers. He was still carrying a full belly, it was only the feathers. Now the fun begins. What possible reason would there be to exert so much energy stalking, aiming, jumping, all without the bird noticing. There has to be a reason why he took it so ravenously having never been fed a bird his entire life. Maybe some of this made sense. Thanks for the feed back!!!!

hey how did you make your pond?

I honestly do not have the time to tell you in detail, but I would be happy to give you the over view. First off I bought a ranch house built on a slab of concrete. That pretty much made the impossible possible. The entire thing is built out of cinder blocks that I tied into the floor with re-bar. Two interior coats of mortar mix and an entire bucket of paint on cistern sealant. I turned one of the top blocks on it's side and mortared some PVC threw it. They make some blocks with a vertical groove in the ends so I used some of those as a track for my 1/2 " lex-an window. I run the entire thing off of a Fluval FX5, a 1500 gph submersible pump ( for circulation ) and a very powerful air pump I picked up at a hydroponics store. The whole thing took about six months to build. Mostly because I did it all by myself. It's been over a year now and not a crack or leak or repair needed so far. The gods honest truth is that I just dove in and hoped for the best. It's turned out to be the smartest craziest thing I've ever undertaken. Well, besides trying to care for these monsters!!. Hope that helped.
