The Crunch
Hey guys, found these on the net, i was wondering if anyone could verify them at all. Are these things really swimming around out there? The first ugly dude is a god knows what, the next pic is a nearly believable size turtle, the last is like something out of a movie.. heard they could be leatherback turtles but i was wondering if anyone more knowledgeable on the subject could chime in? Also if anyone has any idea about the monster in the 1st pic it would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

The 3rd one looks like it might be something out of one of those animal planet shows where the guy goes back in time and takes prehistoric animals back to the present with him...
Just a wild guess though.

First is definitely real, but there's a little bit of a perspective trick used on it. The fish is a few feet closer to the camera than the guy.
The second looks weird, but is definitely possible. Some sea turtles get pretty big, and again, the turtle is closer than the guy is, so it makes it look a little bigger.
The third is totally fake

Is it really an alligator gar? Thats what i decided on if the pics real but then changed my mind as ive never seen one so fat and it resembles no gar ive ever seen in skin colouration and patterning ( or lack therof). As for the size ive seen a few old school pics of 10' -12' long gars with a row of old fishermen standing along its length to back it up.. can't find any now, anyone got some?
The 1st turtle pic does look a bit funny perspective wise but as for the last i actually just read that the leatherbacks (not that i know if it is one or not) can grow up to 3m in length!! :WHOA:

I found this on a gar site.

"The alligator gar is rare, endangered, and has even been extirpated from many of the outer areas of its range. Studies in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have shown that the alligator gar is very susceptible to overfishing. It has been classified as rare in Missouri, threatened in Illinois, and endangered in Arkansas, Kentucky, and is soon to be in Tennessee"

Kind of surprised me.. When I go fishing around here there are usually so many alligator gar that it becomes hard to cast around them.
