I found this on a gar site.

"The alligator gar is rare, endangered, and has even been extirpated from many of the outer areas of its range. Studies in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have shown that the alligator gar is very susceptible to overfishing. It has been classified as rare in Missouri, threatened in Illinois, and endangered in Arkansas, Kentucky, and is soon to be in Tennessee"

Kind of surprised me.. When I go fishing around here there are usually so many alligator gar that it becomes hard to cast around them.

Seriously? Are they a food fish? man i don't think I'd be able to eat a fish big enough to eat me.. Also how big are the ones you see around your area? Kind of wish we had them native to australia although theyd probably not survive long due to all the other deadly animals in this nasty country...
It'd have to be a gar but still, it is the ugliest and meanest looking gar i think i've ever seen. The one in your pic does look like a giga but still nasty as hell. you wouldn't want to pull them out of your local swimming spot;)

I don't know anyone around here that would eat a gar to be honest. I'm sure its an acquired taste.
Well, sometimes they look like logs. I have seen some that probably hit 8 foot.
There are many smaller alligator gars and long nose gar as well.
Generally around the 2-5 foot area.

Mate I'm pretty sure a 10' alligator gar would eat a freshy croc :D i bet a 'gator gar would own our water ways like none other. The heat and PH might be another story....

People need machectes and tin snips to get through their skin i think they would do okay and not overpopulate due to large crocs. Small crocs might be food.
