I have this monster piece of wood (BTW thanks again Jeff), note the bottle of Prime in front of the wood for size reference and I need to cut it down so it will fit in my 300 gallon. The tank is 30" tall. So the dilema:

I decided this is how I want to position the wood in the tank. So which of options would you choose? I can't make up my mind :(

cool looking piece. i think it looks good sitting like that too, because it looks like there is a place underneath where fish can hide. that is if you have fish that would do that.

I would cut the bottom so you can hide the cut portion under your substrate. It's difficult to hide/disguise a clean cut, so it would be fairly noticeable if you cut the top few inches off.

That is exactly why I am adding more wood, this tank is my breeding pair of Parachromis dovii. The female is smaller than the male so I am trying to give her more places she can get a rest from him. See below (note she is under the wood, he is in front of it).. Him = 14" / her = 8"
