Monsters (Arapaima gigas) Grow Out & info Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great to see you got your first arapaima! On the growth rate topic you def won't see the 2-4 inch per month. I have had mine for a month now and I have not seen 2-4 inches Put on, I'd say the growth rate would be 1-2.5 inches, I am feeding mine fat head minnows, blood worms, freeze dried blood worms, live tubifex worms, spectrum pellet .5mm, frozen adult brine shrimp, earthworms, small pieces of uncooked shrimp, pieces of tilapia, pieces of scallops, and lastly silversides.

Hello Monsterpeacock and congrads on your little Pima! I too have a little one which I am learning quite a bit on since he is my first Arapaima. The spastic swimming I believe is the baby arapaima trying to 'join' his reflection in the glass! In the wild the little guys bunch up with their little sisters and brothers to feed! I have attached a link to the video that is on baby arapaimas:

Maximus1006 and I have been going back and forth with how we have been taking care of our arapaimas. It so helps to get an outside perspective on caring for these giants. Here is pics of my little guy:
