List
1 LED Lightbar.

I used a blue one that I found in walmart in the Auto section.

1 Power Supply

I used one off a old portable DVD player that no longer worked. It is rated at 9volts and 2000mA.

1 wire stripper

1 Roll of electic tape

Now I know nothing really about electronics except that there is pos. (+) and neg (-). I first hooked this LED to a 9volt battery and it lights up and really gives the tank a nice blue hue at night. This current power supply states that it is 120v in and 9 volts out. I really dont know if it will work at all but I am going to try. By wireing the light to this new power supply I will completely get rid of the 9volt battery and be able to have the light on all the time.

Step 1

I cut off the end of the power supply and stripped back both wires

Step 2
connect wires to LED light bar and hopefully everything should work.

Like I said its a work in progress and currently I still need to connect the wires and see if it will light.

My only worry is I know nothing about electrical work. I beleive it will work but still am unsure. Also I am starting to wonder about a fire hazzard being that the lights are made for 12 volt car battery. I beleive though with the step down to 9 volts that I should be fine.

I love to do things myself and try to keep as close to professional done as possible. More pics will come when I get off work and get home to test everything out.

As long as it outputs 12v DC you are ok, as that is what a car battery is.

Don't just twist the wires and tape them either, you'll want to solder it first. Either that or use wire nuts or butt connectors.

only thing i would be worried about is your plug came off a dvd player which is a/c current (house) and that light bar is meant for your car which is d/c voltage, probably wont work..

see thats what i was wondering no one can really give me a straight anwser though. Currently though I have a simple 9 volt battery

but looking at this charger i have it states

Input AC~110V-230V 60/50 Hz 39w
Output DC ~9V 2000mA

So I believe it will output a DC charge so I think it will work..... not srue though haha. Like I said I am at work and just found this charger and thought hey that might work. I guess I will find out later tonight when I get home.

Ill keep you updated and if it works well Moonlight kits may be able to be peiced together for people that are looking for a cheap alternitive.

well i got it wired up so far so good. Will take pics later tonight when its dark. Hopefully it doesn't get to hot and start a fire. I really don't think it will but I am going to keep an eye on it.

If its rated for 12 volts and your only putting 9 to it and its a/c in and d/c out, youll be fine... should last a reaaaaaaaaaaaalllllyyyyyyy long time too....good luck...
