moonlights

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can see the moonlight, so can the plecos. They have very good night vision. The sudden change in light level still gives them a fright.

Turn on the moonlight, drop in some food and sit back and wait. The plecs will be much braver with the low level light and will probably come out and feed.

Mine are much more active if the tank lights are off and just low level lights in the room.

Cheers

Ian

Give them a chance to adjust to the new lights. Like Ian said maybe offer a small amount of food.

You are better off turning the moonlights on and then the main tank lights off. It will work well to different degrees... obviously the less light the better. I do have a couple of plecs that seem to only come out in complete darkness mind you.

Maybe get more loaches that will swim around making the plecos feel safer. If they see a group of loaches out in open water it might make them a little more comfortable.

how bright is the moonlight... some can be so bright, they basically are a light. Also it is good to have them at say one side of the tank, so there are the areas of dark, and their hides aren't under the moonlight themselves. Just some ideas.

I've got blue LED lunar lights on both my tanks and my plecos and all of my three striped african glass catfish love them. They are active all night long and go into hiding as soon as the regular lights come back on the next day. Very awesome sight at night.

I would agree with the post that you should turn on the moonlight first, then turn off the tank light.

I leave my LED moonlights on 24/7 and have the main light on a timer, and as soon as the main light goes out the nocturnal fish are all over the place in the tank, even though the LED is on.
