i don't think i can go with the boil method most pieces are over 3'. if if there is a lot of tannin would it stain a acrylic tank? i also always see this wood without slate bottom so does this waterlog quickly or what? i will look for these post Jake

i have 2 large pieces of MOPANI wood in my 125 gal. i soaked them for 2 weeks prior to setup and 3 weeks after setup, i still had slightly brown water. give it time . . .

All I know is...carbon will absorb the tannis.
I boiled my 1st piece in a cleaned out turkey fryer, then soaked in a old cooler for about 2 months.
It still stained the water.

Then I started to read threads here on mfk about driftwood.
That's how I came across the carbon idea.
I tried it & it worked.

The next 2 pieces I just rinsed w/water put rite in, added carbon to filter, & called it a day.
I used carbon for about 4 months like this w/no brown water.

Now I no longer use carbon at all.

I am simply writing my experience w/said topic & giving the op my suggestion.

Here are two pics of my setup w/no brown water...enjoy
nice tank!

Well the good thing, it doesn't hurt the fish. I've had mine in my tank for two years now and if I miss a weekly water change I notice a little yellowing of the water. The longer your able to soak your drift wood before you put it in your tank the better. Hot water is even better. Once the wood is in the tank then carbon filters will help keep your water clean.
