One of my tanks has stable pH & GH, but I cant keep the KH up. I think I've found the culprit. I have 2 large chunks of Mopani wood in there that have finally stopped leaching tannin, but now they seem to be absorbing all the KH. Anyone ever had this issue before? Other ideas?

ive always heard about wood leeching stuff out, but never read or heard that it could possibly absorb anything from the water.

interested to see what someone else might say who knows for sure.

You could add a chunk of dead coral t counter-act the Kh decrease.

Sure, I could throw in some coral. I'll probly just move the wood to my Loach tank. They would love it.
I guess I just need confirmation that someone else thinks it could be the Mopani... Has anyone seen or heard of this before? Do people know about this & use it for this purpose?

I thought my mopani (I use it in 2 of my tanks) may have been the cause of my KH being zero but it turned out it came from my tap at 0.

Sooo... you didnt have any KH for the wood to suck out, right? Wait, how does that work? Zero? As in no nuthin nada?

Yup, zero. Took too long to figure out and the wild PH swings after water changes ended up killing my Xanthic JD :(
