More Bad News :(

Well said. I do realize that any large animal has the chance of fatally injuring a person. It just seems with hots you are really playing roulette with your life/fingers/chunks of tissue etc, etc. At least with a horse or even large Monitor or Constrictor you can have a bite or dangerous mishap and get a second chance to clean up your husbandry techniques. With hots that's a different story.
However, how many people in the private sector are actually working with pharmaceutic institutions to gain ground with venom research? Not many I'm willing to bet. I have read many articles/papers about advancement in Diabetes treatment from venoms, Alzheimer's etc. I'm all for it and believe it is just the tip of iceberg concerning research. I see certain posts with news headlines about how someone was stupid and they are ruining it for the rest of us. The people complaining about these idiots I'm sure aren't doing anything in regards to captive propagation or research. I agree 100% with legislation regarding these animals. 4 out 5 people should not possess them. Thanks for the reply Coura.

More people thinking we should have legislation? face palm.

Hots should be available like they are here in PA. You want one? Go to the show and buy one. Sry but thats how it should be. Gov needs to stay the hell out of our business. Gov can NOT EVER, and i do mean ever, be trusted. While I agree this isnt an animal for everyone we all knows what happens when u let the gov into our lives. Our guns is a great example. Look at some of the european countrys.....

Or look at PA's permit process for certain animals.

The end is near for PA's laissez faire aproarch:

That more than likely will not pass. A complete ban? Nope. Way too big of a buisiness here in PA

Snakes are not really my cup of tea but I think anyone willing to put in the time to learn how to keep hots, as safely as possible, should be afforded the opportunity without insurmountable government hurdles to overcome.

I keep dangerous/venomous fish. Although not likely to kill any but the rare person that is allergic to the venom, I don't want to have to answer to the government to keep a Lion fish. My experience is that when "we the people" give an inch and agree to reasonable restrictions the government takes the unreasonable mile. Then we can only get the mile back one inch at a time, if at all.

Maybe a more helpfull, but less likely to happen when $ is involved, approach would be for distributers of hots to self police and require reasonable proof of ability to handle hots before selling them.
