More Controversial Jack...

Damn ebjds. I've raised groups of fry purchased at 1". Some ended up having the snake skin pattern (like pic 1) and others turned the solid metallic blue. Those were siblings from the same spawn. Fin shape and length as well as profile shape (beak nose ugh) will vary greatly from sibling to sibling as well. Hmm

Wow, great info from personal experiences. Cool

They are two different strains, and the DNA would be the same.
Hybridization would be be between two different sp. w/ different DNA. Same DNA = same fish. It's like the difference between a person having blond or brown hair IMO.
I would like to also note that caprintis and Texas (cyano) are two different sp.

Ive always thought the ebjds with the snake skin patter resemble cubans.

This is a jd x cuban.
Heres the page that pic is from for more pics and a small amont of info:http://fishopolis.wordpress.com/2011/

I have a hard time with the argument against them being a hybrid. It is correct that first generation hybrid spawns result in fry with random expressions of the parrent fish's traits. This is not a f1 hybrid though. The ebjd traits have been refined into the strain since the late 1980s and with the constant breeding back to jd there will be more consistency yet as I mentioned in a previous post there is much variation with ebjd (even amongst siblings).

Heck NO, I love learning new stuff, even if I dont necessarily believe or trust it.

That Jack x Cuban is Awesome dude. My next plan is to breed a Powder or Electric Jack with another pearly Cichlid (possibly a Carpintis). So with the offsprings that would "carry the Blue Genes", I will cross back with another Powder or Electric. Maybe not all but at least some of the babies should look interesting.

^Sounds like a nice project. Jack x Carpinte are some nice looking fish I can only imagine how crazy it would look with ebjd crossed in as well.

Fishopolis is awesome I just checked it out, Aquatic aggression is that your site?

Nope I stumbled upon it awhile ago. The author breeds a lot of the same stuff I breed or have interest in. I wish I could score some of those jack Cuban hybrids.
