I picked up 3 for $4.99 each at a LFS and I was asking about there history, but it didn't go well. I assume a customer brought it in. I was wondering that since festaes aren't sold at any old LFS, I can assume that they my be closer related to an F0?
Also, sexing them at a young age. I've read that sex can be determine at 3". About how long is that (they are at 1"-1.5")? If they aren't F0, F1, or F2... will these female color up to a point where I can say "Yes, they're females/males"?

Also, at what size does the black bloch become apparent?

Pics? Are you sure they're true festae? That's a very low price for some true festae, IMO. They'd be a steal here. Well, you can tell males from females primarily by the dorsal fin coloration. Females will always get a dark blotch covering the front half of their dorsal fine. Some develop it at a small size, 3"-4", some take a bit longer. Mine didn't get it until she was 6", fooled me completely.

You''ll never know how closely related to the wild they are but if they are true festaes than yes, they will color up for you. You should start to see the black blotch between the 2-4" mark. Just hope you got festaes and not uropthalmus (mayans.) If they were labeled as red terrors you probably got shafted.

you cannot tell if they are F0 F1 F2etc... but tey do all colour up.

i picked out a male and female when the male was 2.5-3" and the female was 2-2.5", i picked correctly, they bred.

pics for us will tell you.
