More festae questions

I have another question.
The 3 festaes I have now are in a 29 grow out. The biggest & longest one is at about 2". It chases the other two. At what size should I move them in my 90gal. Atm my oscar 8" is in the 90 b/c he chases the 4" JD and sal. I was trying to grow them to a point where they can put up a fight for about 3 months, but I had no luck in growth. So I was wondering what you guys/gals would do?

well, is your 90 the only other large tank you have? If it is you should probably figure out if you want an oscar or if you want festae, because the festae will kill the oscar when they get big enough. I personally would lose the oscar and throw the festae in the 90, or grab another tank.

you really should not have to move them for awile. but aggression will only tell. you may not be able to sex them until there around 4-5 inches. my male and female looked identical because the male shows the black vertical stripes that protrude up and onto the dorsal fin giving that black blotch female look and my female still had drab color like the male with all the blue spangling on her tail fin. about a month later the blue spangling on the tail fin went away and she colored up very nice. the maless black vertical stripes started to fade out as they do and thats when i knew for sure what i had. hope that helps. dont assume anything at 2-3 inches. good luck and great buy. oops my bad. i didnt catch the part that there in a 29 gallon. ya you could experience alot of aggression in such a small tank even with small fish. if you get them in the 90 everything should be fine for awile. like the 6-8 inch mark then all heck may break loose.

This male is about 4"

One of the guys from the Milwaukee Aquarium Society was (and may still be) breeding them, that's where I got the above specimen, and I believe he has distributed them to many LFSs.

Thanks every one for your reply.

The O in the 90 is only a temp until sal and JD get bigger. Then she is off to the 110 gal.

Yes! Thanks for your reply! I bought mine in milwaukee as well and I wanted to know some back ground info on them. Are the fry F1, F2 and etc. Cool festae. Is it a male because if it, is man it is one gorgeous? Have any pic of other fry or maybe even parents?

I'm pretty sure that's a female, unless it fertilized some eggs that's a female.
