Anyone good at glass safety calcs? I made an amatuer attempt and get a minimum safe thickness of 4.6mm for a window (with water level not over the top of the glass) 2m by 0.5m and a safety factor of 2. This would be cool for me as I can get 6mm glass reasonably cheaply next door! (as long as its right...)

Right well the rest of the wood arrived but decided to go a bit bigger, so will be back down the builders yard tommorrow! Also found a good use for the top frame of the stand I started....perfect size for the window! I love it when a plan comes together!

Right thats the volume fixed now...the final height is going to be where the beam crosses from the top of the window to the rear. This is a little higher than before and the window a little larger giving a display tank volume of 295 US Gallons and a system volume of 405 US Gallons... Still small by MONSTER standards but big enough for a first tank! My Missus has said if I can make it look nice I can have the left hand side of the lounge...that would fit a 9ft by 4ft!!!! Better make the grade hey!!!

From here I'm gonna switch to a light frame and 3mm glass, go up another 4ft to a Ply top....

You...sicxspeed...you just wanna see my ceiling cave in! The missus has just walked in the room, it looks a lot bigger now, she's getting nervous about the weight...It should hold....She wants it down stairs...which is cool, but I'm gutted cause I could have made it 3ft longer! Be a bit difficult to mod now...

I'm well gutted...had the floorboards up and its just a couple of dodgy old joist supporting this thing...gonna have to go downstairs...right in the spot I was planning to do a 1000gallon if this one worked...arse. Not really practical to extend this one now....have to have a think....

Got the threaded rod today, and the right sized drill bit. I was trying 8mm rod through 7mm hole, cause I thought it would be tighter..it is, to tight...take about a day to force all the rod through and I am too lazy. Redrill it tonight...

How can I stop this CLS from stinking? Its been there for weeks now and still honks of VOC's...cant take it downstairs like that. Is there something I can paint it with?

hahaha, definitely don't wanna see the ceiling come down man.....Well still looks like it is going to be a very nice completed piece. How many joist here under it upstairs and how did you find out?

Oh, Basslover...How did you know...its all gone tits up! It was looking soooo good, but it just wasnt! Well did I mention I cant drill straight? Well I cant...so I made sure to concentrate REAL hard....and I did it...for the first time in my life I DRILLED STRAIGHT...in the wrong efin places!!!!! I though, i dont need a template, I'm real good with numbers and mines way smaller than midnights...I wont need a template..i I'm real careful...Well children, you do need a template. I was only the odd mm or two out, but that adds up, and the treaded rod wouldn't go through...but I fought and it did eventually...Yes victory! NOOOOO, the walls arn't straight AHHHHHHHh....
