More Fulu

Let me ask a question...on the female fulus, do you see a lot of markings? I have 14 that are still under an inch, and there is a bunch of markings on most of them, not color, but like patterning, but it doesn't look exactly like barring. They run from the camera, so I can't get close up pics of them. I'm hoping that the markings are not indications of males, or else I'm way male heavy. They are pretty neat tho, we are enjoying watching them grow and change.

The pics I took came out really bad, and you can't really see what I'm talking about, but I will post them if you think that will help. (Don't think so, the quality is really bad!)

Thanks. We played with this one a little bit...used gold wrapping paper on the back. I really like the look of it for that tank.
 
Nice set up. I have noticed females tend to have mainly horizontal bars. One that is the length of the body and a short one that is also horizontal. My adult female anyway. She doesn't have any bars on the face so if yours do I would think male but again this is my first experience with these fish so I may be wrong.
 
That is a nice tank...Are your plants real? They look really nice.

Jeff, the markings are really towards the top of the body on the fish for the most part. It's hard to say right now what I have, but it's fun to guess. We would split this into two groups, if necessary, but I'm going to try to trade out males to vary the blood line.

Bre, thanks. The plants are real, and it's hornwort. We read up on these guys before getting them, and set the tank up to their specs. The hornwort was suggested. We found the plants at Petsmart, the problem is, they have no root system, nor are expected to get one. Figure they will redecorate at will.
 
lady barbra young female fulu will have a horizontial bar running the legnth of the flank, it may not be solid but some what broken. they should be goldish yellow, males at that size will already be showing some color on the anal fin and they too will have that broken bar. if you dont mind me asking where did you obtain yours?
 
Deadman, I think they are your babies....got them from Dave. Almost all of them have a horizonal bar running thru the middle, but some have a horizonal line at the top. I'm not noticing any color, as yet, but they all turned a pretty yellow color, except for 2, within 24 hours of being in my tank. A few are also showing some vertical barring. I'm really enjoying them, and having fun trying to guess who is what sex.

Dave didn't want to sell them this little...at least not ship them, but I live close to his store. They were 1/4 inch when I got them.
 
yes that is small i wouldnt worry about trying to sex them at that size, it is however satisfying to watch them grow and mature, im getting ready to send out more fulu to
dave and others. they go as fast as they put them out. i have a group of two males and 5 females that im sending dave they are 1.25 inches. along with bunches of little ones.
i would say over they past two years i have put over 1000 fulu into the hobby, i have donated to many fish clubs and assosiations and given more away than i can count.
it would be neat for you to photo document thier maturing process and all theh care they recieve as the more of them that are available more folks will be looking for info on them.
they are one of my favorite species. good luck and keep us all posted.
 
Thanks Deadman, the more questions I ask, the more info I get...which is really important. You are doing exactly what I want to do...get more Vics into the hobby. I plan on having 10 tanks or so dedicated to Vics, with at least 2 for the Fulus. Right now, I have 4, and have a 5th that's empty. In the next month or so I'm picking up some small Dayglows, and hopefully some Rubies as well.

I'll be watching Dave's for your fish to show up...but I think I'm stocked on Fulus until I can get another tank going.
