I ordered 2 of the odyssea 36" adv. it has 1-250w mh and 4-39w t5s in each. I will use phoenix 14k bulbs.
 
i will probably upgrade the ballasts on the odyessa's . not right away. most likely change to dimmable lumateks. the only bad thing is u have to rewire a new plug out of the lighting fixture. for some reason the odyessa fixtures dont have the same plug as most standard ballasts.

They probably do it for the very reason of making it more difficult for a person to swap to a different brand ballast and so they instead continue buying their brand ballasts.
 
definately possible. it only took me about 20 minutes to swap the cord on my other odyessa fixture. i swaped it with a hamilton hqi ballast.

another thing i noticed on the odyssea is the power cord on their mh ballasts arent anywhere near the thickness of hamilton power cords.
 
it looks like icecap and vertex ballasts will plug right in. other brands like galaxy and lumatek and hamilton use a different plug.
