hey coura what are you feeding yours and how is yours set up this is my first turtle in about 8 years and i always had snappers so any tips will be great : )
Quite easy fery forgiving turts:D Some will take food out of your hand and they are not that delicate or timid as some people will make you beleave(but most are less bold than sliders). Also yours has already surpased the early critical hachling state. Care is praticly the same as sliders. Give them a big tank with lots of deep, clean and warm water, a good basking area and some deco like logs, plants and cork and they grow like weeds:D The biggest weakness of maps is skin probs but with a good filter, water changes and basking area, it doesant became a issue. For the first weeks keep him or her under observation, see if it swims, dives and basks normaly. For food they are oportunistic omnivores. Here I feed juveniles like yours every day with about 2 no food days a week. Mostly turt pellets like reptomin, zoomed, chiclid pellets, also along side crickets, earthworms, shrimp, clams, chicken ,fish fillets, turkey, etc for a turt of that age should be about 70-50% of the diet. The rest is dark leafy vegetables or vegetable based turtle or tortoise pellets. Turnip greens, water cress, mustard greens, collard greens, etc. The vegetable part of the diet becames very important as the turtle ages. My adult animals only reseive animal food every other feeding. I give them 3 feedings a week ,only one is animal based and my turts are better than ever:D
