More overflow questions!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if i'm understanding right then nope, sorry.

a way to look at is your basically just splitting your intake. if you get enough suction the airline will begin sucking up water. if air gets in then both siphons break.

i personally don't trust checkvalves(i'm one of those control freaks who believes he can do it better:D). i just ran airline from the top and clamped it off.
like i said earlier i had a setup in which i could see when air was present. i actually modded my HOB at the time to do the same. because of the way my tank was setup air would get trapped at the top and make this really annoying sound.:irked:

as for the noise i know there's ways to work through this but i don't have enough exp with overflows(just mine). i do know that if you clarify what type of noise it is will help greatly. i.e. is it slurping, bubbling, is it constant or does it bob. might even think about the pool hose. not saying scrap it but if its not supported i could see it making that moaning sound.

finally, can always just cram some floss or poly fiber in the thing:grinno:

thanks for the input. So if i take one end of the airline and stick it in the hole (where my checkvalve was), and the other line connected to the aqualifter, would that ensure that no air in the overflow? Also, there was two inputs in the aqualifter. what do i do with the other one?

i am assuming so, but i have never used the aqualifter. i'm pretty sure you its like an air pump in reverse. one thing i would check is if you still need a check valve with this. if power goes out i don't know if the aqualifter will allow air in.

btw are these currently running a sump or are you just testing them? if they're up lets see a pic

On goes from the overflow to the aqualifter. This suck air out of the overflow.

The other line goes from the aqua lifter to the tank. This line discharges any air or water that is pulled from the overflow.

thats alot of noise,so has anyone told him how to stop the noise(the gurgling sound)my exp with overflow if you put a ball valve on the t section you have to put one on your return line after the pump to slow the flow down or your pump will drain your sump to fast.just my experience, and i built a overflow like that and could never stop the noise so it is sitting in my basement unused so if any one can give more info on stopping the noise i think everyone would be greatful

Now there are two types of noises. Are you getting the gurgling from the inlet or the outlet that feeds the sump?

Hooked up aqualifter to checkvalve. I'll put some type of mesh/strainer/gutter guard at the inlet to keep fish from diving in. Appreciate all the input that was given!

"4- I tried sucking out the air as I turned on the pump, and got no success."

I just filled mine up (outside) with a hose, worked fine.
