i've never own one before but from what I have heard/read, they are pretty aggressive and get to about the same size as rbp. like other serra, it is also slow grower.

thanks for all the help and info jp80911. very appreciated.

you are welcome.
OPEFE.com is your good friend when it comes to piranha, just read up all the information there and you can learn a lot about your fish.
post some more pics when it's bigger so we can try to get a positive ID on it.

I own two macs they are the most active fish I have not shy at all I call them the poor mans rhom....

He's the size of a quarter.

At that size he could be anything. If he's a serrasalmus then there's really no way for most of us to ID him because there are so few people who have experience breeding/raising serrasalmus species, and there is just not that much information about serrasalmus fry development. I would try on piranha-cove but even then all your going to get is someones best guess. Grow him out to about 6" and then we'll have some idea...

If this juvenile bears any resemblance to its adult form (many serras look similar at young age) then I agree with jack, it looks a lot like a mac.

Its definately a serra of some type but its really hard to tell at that size which type because they all generally look the same when they are young.

I can see a difference in my 2 Serra's - the Mac has larger duel black bands on the tail fin were as the Rhom has 2 diagonal slashes at the end of the front black band heading downwards towards the end of the tail. These slashes are not present in the my Juvi Mac.

I don't think its a mac. I had 5 macs that were the size of dimes now down to two that are about an inch long, its pretty clear to determine they were macs.

Grow it out a bit and post some more pictures later, at that size it is really hard to tell. Could be rhom or sanchezi.

TO me it looks exactly like my mac when i got him. And mine was very active and very aggressive to my reds. I actually sold my mac and kept my reds.
