He is awesome. Seems like the best Haits belong to u. Ur other male was nice as well. I yet to own some Haits. Next on my cichlid list.

Thank you very much:) that is a great compliment Danny. I do have fry that will be available in a month or so. My pair is unrelated too:) and my other male was this guys dad;)

Thats the son of Voodoo? Dayum!!!! Great Bloodline. I never owned Haits. Just got scared off cause alot of people say they get bloat easily.

Yes this Is the son of voodoo:) and haits aren't that bad to care for once you figure out how to care for them. Definitely a challenge for the first couple of times.

What type of diet is good for them?

For the most part it depends on what size they are to begin with. And regardless of that, once I get them I put them on a once a day veggie and sprulina diet. Then haits under 4" continue same diet once a day with an occasional NLS or massivore couple times a week. Once they reach 4-5" they're usually in the clear. You also need to keep in mind that they stress very easily while younger and that stress weakens their immune system making them vulnerable to heximita, which is bloat. So what you wanna do is place them into a tank that isn't high traffic, that's big enough to possibly grow them to 4-5" mark, no other tankmates other than eachother and bottom feeders, maximize your oxygen, keep temps around 85-90, feed only once a day and decorate the tank to house each hait that is in there. Also stock up on clout MEDS, Epsom salt, aquarium salt and only medicate when needed. The aquarium salt is fine tho. Then most of all it takes patients and spending time monitoring them for illnesses, or anything out of ordinary:) there's more to it all but that comes with the time and energy spent into raising them;)

Thanks for the info. How are they on growth? Are they fast or slow growers?

Thought I would chime in. My old guy was raised primarily on massivore delite. Keep the stress down to a minimum. I did this buying just a pair for my 75 gallon. I was able to tell the sex but their color and size differences. My guy died as soon as he was stressed from an infection. Hope this helps. Good luck!

For the most part they grow 1/2" a month. And yes stress is the biggest factor. The reason I fed veggie diet was because it helps to keep the digestion goin. But after a couple months of keeping mine I would intro massivore, which is a large part of my fish room diet. This male I have eats about 5 massivore pellets a day along with some soft krill pellets. He is a real pig and will try just about anything. He won't eat talapia or shrimp but love bloodworms lol
