More tank pics, updated

The drama continues in Goon City. A few days ago my largest male hrp Hulk took a shot at Brick's tail. Hulk has a small area around and behind the large sponge filter. Sometimes he goes into one of the logs near the corner. Hulk's been a bit territorial lately and doesn't like intrusion on his space. Problem is the oscar goes where he wants.

Once Hulk made his cheap shot move Brick made his. The oscar sat by Hulk's space, blocking him in and daring the hrp to come out. He stuck his head in the log Hulk escaped to. This went on for 3 days. Hulk only dared come out when it was time to eat and Brick was occupied elsewhere.

So now Brick has re scaped the back to block everything. A boulder is shoved against the back of the log Hulk uses. There's a ramp of sand like a mountain making a wall to the side the nest of hrps use.

Brick's covered part of the air disc with sand and shoved it next to the log so now Hulk can't get in it at all. He's basically in jail until Brick decides to stop. The rules of the 225 are simple. Give the King his space and don't piss him off. (These rules don't apply to the bp Boss).

Speaking of which the two tank bosses had a minor squabble this morning. Brick had some kind of hissy fit, spinning and swirling water, body slapping the parrot. Boss just rode it out and bumped into the side of the oscar. And that was it. The unflappable Boss wasn't phased in the least by Brick's tantrum (the O is pretty cranky in the morning).

So on to some pics:

Hulk (lower left) basically in jail. Everything is piled up courtesy of Brick. He can't get in either end of his log. Its now a barricade. Jazz the opportunist wants to claim this area. She and Hulk square off. Boss is barely interested.

Wow I never knew Oscar fish were that intelligent!

Based on my experience and the experience of others I would put blood parrots in that category as well. They take a lot of heat for appearance and 'purity' but it's the intelligence and interaction that keeps them so popular. All of mine have distinct personalities.

Like people there are always some more intelligent than others in any living specie. I've had 2 severums. My current golden severum Corn is far more intelligent than my previous green severum Chip. It's not even close.

Small news.

In the 125 I've been able to identify 4 daughters so far from Speck. These are the striped ones and they all have a pretty bright blush on their bellies. The pink ones I have no clue yet. As usual I miscounted the number of fry...there's around 30 total, about 50% each pink and striped. Sizes are 3/4" to about 1 1/4" inch now. If the sex ratio holds for the pink ones then Speck will have inherited the male bias for fry from her mother Pip.

I'm giving serious thought to providing Lazarus with his own permanent tank once I move the fry into the growout. Something in the 20ish gallon size with a couple of buddies.

Latest goon report. As usual, on the weekend.

My O Brick has redecorated 2/3 of the tank. Plants he left alone for months now have stems ripped out and are floating at the surface. Rocks and logs have been nudged/moved to different angles. His large nest is still along the back wall but he's scrunched up vines making a partition. On the side where the hrp nest is he's blocked with the vines. Hive queen Pip stays there even though her sons get run around.

Because everything is re-scaped a new round of squabbling has broken out among the other fish for turf. Hulk and his hrp siblings now occupy the opposite side of the tank. Meanwhile my female acara Jazz has made it her business to be in everyone's business, chasing the hrps (including Hulk). She's been having a good time running them all around. Tank and Bubba are nearly as big as brother Hulk now. Doesn't help them at all against Jazz. She's an equal opportunity chaser.

My red rainbow Salt does a good job of navigating the surrounding crazy. Jazz nudges him but he won't run. The hrps don't bother him much either.

I honestly almost forget syno Spot is in the tank...he's gone invisible.

Boss the bp pretty much ignores the wild activity. Fish are flying all around and he just swims through like 'whatever.' Jazz can't intimidate him (she's tried a LOT) and he just plows into her with a liplock, so she leaves him alone or just settles around him quietly.

Brick has made another nest where Hulk stayed, blocking his log. It's been days since the hrp clipped his tail. Until further notice he's officially been run out.

Like a BOSS.

Because Brick moved so much stuff around, fights broke out all over the tank for new territory spots. The worst offenders were the hrps who went into WWE mode, fighting with the syno, the acara, and each other. So the tank was disrupted for over a day. During their squabbling they managed to clip the oscar a couple of times. The parrot was the only fish unaffected. Rainbow Salt has a scale missing from one side.

By yesterday evening it was a different story. In Brick's tank, THERE WILL BE ORDER OR ELSE. He has now blocked sections of the tank again, keeping the hrps in certain areas and away from his pit. He hovers and watches at their access points daring any of them to go through. Hive queen Pip stays in her area most of the time so she wasn't affected.

The parrot goes with the flow and isn't part of the drama at all. Boss is the ultimate chill pill with fins. He fights when he needs to and removes himself from wild activity going about his buisness.

Brick don't play. As of now the tank is on

Brick is in full blown tyrant mode! He spied acara Jazz across the tank and randomly chased her into the plants. She popped out when the coast was clear. I'll have to take a pic of Brick's work. It's really outstanding aquascaping. Hulk the hrp started to go in one end of Boss's log and flew back out. I thought something was weird because Boss wasn't even in the log. So I looked inside. Brick has blocked the entance with a large rock. I'll get a pic...this oscar is something else. He's still moving smaller rocks as I speak. I've been hearing them crack against the glass all day.
