more than one fahaka puffer

The puffer may have not developed any territories. What are the parameters? How are you handling all that bioload you just added to that tank?

You probably should have started a new thread on this.

Hi. Sorry i never really thought much about it until the moment i read this thread. Water parameters are fine, not sure of the exact values as i lack the testing kit at home, but what i do is i do a daily water change cleaning up the waste. But my main point is that even before this seemingly "peaceful" behaviour was displayed, the previous owner did mentioned that he was successfully keeping the fahaka with a peacock bass, but eventually grew too worried and hence sold it away. The puffer has been with its new tankmates for a month (been saving for a new tank; slow as a student lol) , but i'm just looking for clarifications. I might get pics of the fahaka in his old tank with the pb.

Hi guys. I recently got a fahaka that was in perfect health and placeed it in my 125g. Cut the long story short, it's been pretty inactive (any possible explanations?) and when another of my tank broke down (someone threw rocks) i fearfully added my armatus and stingrays in (i know, bad idea). However, what happened is that the puffer has only been occupying the left end of the tank and the stingrays on the right. There have been no fins nipped or any signs of bullying whatsoever. Any explanations?

So it is with Fahakas... I think it's because he was just introduced into a new tank and doesn't know his surroundings. Give him time... My Fahaka shares his tank with 3 buenos aires tetras, 1 tiger barb, 2 black skirt tetras, 3 serpae tetras, 1 white fin tetra ( I think that's the name ) and 1 dwarf gourami. He leaves them alone, because he can't catch them. I'm sure once he's big enough, he will. I also think that Fahaka's like eating snails, worms, etc. better than fish, so they don't always bother chasing them unless they're really hungry. Keep him well fed and give him time to get accustomed to his new home. You'll notice the personality start to show!

@Geronimo69 (no idea how to quote, sorry): Will do, thanks alot (: was just wondering and thinking really hard cuz with a peaceful fahaka the possibilities would have been endless. However i do understand that the fahaka has been acknowledged as the most aggressive of all puffers, not without a good reason. Yet, the previous owner did successfully keep the fahaka with a pb. Could there be something with pb that kept it safe lol, cuz i noticed that it went pretty close to it in the pics but didn't show any aggression.

Not really sure... My Fahaka is only about 5" so he's just a little guy. My Tiger barb will hang around him ( almost teasing him ) but can always get away because he's so quick. I've never kept a pbass, but they look pretty quick also.

As for aggressive, yes they are, but I think my Ceylon puffer is worse... ( brackish though, so not sure it counts )

Got it (:

Ok no matter what happens, guess this puffer is gonna be all alone, though i MIGHT throw in a few fishes to see its consequences from time to time. Maybe it has something to do with the size, as ppl usually throw in cheaper fishes most of the time as trial. Anyhows, i suspect this puffer isn't exactly taking a liking to me as can be seen by its feeding routine.
1. Throw food in
2. Have a staring game with him (or his back sometimes)
3. Get called to do a chore or something that requires you to leave from his view
4. Return to find the food gone
Go figure that one out :(

Give that time also... When I first got mine, he didn't eat, at all, for 2 weeks! I'd put the food in, he'd smell it, then swim away. He now takes night crawlers right from my hand:D

Wow that's really cool. Wouldn't feel good if the puffer finds joy in tormenting him, he sure acts like a diva! But he's really sweet too, remember i was cleaning the tank a week ago, and noticed that his cave was a little too narrow for him and made it bigger, he swam next to my hand, rested then rubbed against it. Really nice.

I say give it time, by the way do you have any decorations in the tank hes currently in???

But yeah, the thing with a fahaka is they can turn at any time... i heard about it plenty of times... especially as they get older... although i guess each individuals character plays a big part too...
