it is somewhat rare, or seasonal. I see it at my lfs at least once a year. They were available around winter for $39.99 i think, or it could be $79.99. i can't remember the exact price. but yeah, they are somewhat rare. great find!

sounds like you're describing my beautiful fish. Its either a M. kunnume or a M. rume proboscirostris. I've never seen a live one before when I saw one in our local lfs selling just one specimen. Didn't think twice and just bought him right there and then. A very beautiful and interesting fish with a great personality to booth, not a shy type at all. Still enjoy him a lot. here is a recent pic.

Damn it dtg!!! you always get the great fish!!!!! :grinyes: :grinyes: :grinyes: How much do those go for round here?:) :)

The Kannume is rarely imported but not that rare in their home waters, I don't think they have ever been bred in captivity, they are very long lived and can reach 40". In captivity they usually grow slowly. Often netted as food fish.

Everything guppy said. Not rare, you just don't see them a lot, and often when they come in they are not in the best of health. Toyin can get them and does get them occasionally at good price. Very very very hard to distinguish among the different "dolphin" types of mormyrids. All look very similar. But coloring on M. kanumme seems to be a little different. I have another dolphin that has slightly diff coloring and VERY DIFFERENT BEHAVIOUR... its more like a typical mormyrid in behaviour (shy and nocturnal) whereas the M. Kanume seems way more outgoing and boisterous. Also more of a bronze-gray instead of blue-gray.

They are AWESOME fish. Best ever. Mine just dies 2 days ago (mauled by ATF) and I am trying to get another one at about 20 inches. Usually you see them at 7"-10". They do grow slow.. had one for over a year and only grew maybe 3". ALso, the will "bother" other fish, which I noticed gets them into trouble. THey are pesty and then the other fish will turn on them.

Definitely get it if you want a long term PET.. they develop a strong personality. LIve a LONG time. SEnsitive to SALT in the water (and chemicals).
