morphing tadpole questions.

He looks pretty bad. Freeze him if you want, it's up to you. I doubt he will make it so either way....yeah. I hope I'm wrong though.

I guess I should stick to raising fish. I checked on them in the other tank and they're fine. I will treat them with meds just in case.

He was my first amphibian. Bought him for a buck.

that blows.....

OMG! Thats the sickest tadpole I've ever seen! I feel bad that you had to do that, but I hate to see animals suffer to. It looks like he might have had some kind of internal parasite, thats all I can think of that would do that to a healthy tadpole over the weekend. Sorry for your loss.:(

I bought this particular tadpole from Petco. Shouldn't have done that. I will probably try raising a couple of tadpoles again this spring if I have the time and money. And I will probably get the tadpoles from a reputable LFS.

Is there anything else I should know about to prevent this from happening in the future? Like products I should try to prevent or treat them from disease?

Thanks!

I dont think petco is allowed to sell tadpoles, unless they have a permit. Anyway you were doing everything right, he probably just picked up a parasite from the store. You could try to treat them with fish medications for internal parasites next time, just to be sure. I have never had a tadpole get sick or waste away, and I dont exactly keep them in ideal conditions. They live in a five gallon tank with playsand and some duckweed. They have an air pump, but no filter. I feed them boiled lettuce and turnip greens once a week. I have five large bullfrog tadpoles in there and at least two ghost shrimp. It used to be a brackish tank, so they can handle some salt in their water.
Good Luck!
