mosquito larva, safe or not?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mosquitos have a "complete life cycle" In the insect world which means that they go through 4 stages: egg- larva- pupae-adult. Once a larva turns into a pupae, get it out of your house before it hatches! I've always made sure to seperate larvae from pupa before I even bring a batch of wrigglers through the door. Good to rinse em in a fine mesh net under tap water before feeding.

btw, greets & welcome to MFK Aerobean. Yikes, another hoosier only this one lives in my hometown! What's up with all the Indiana people on MFK? Is it just proof that there's nothing to do in this state except keep fish?? :grinno:

i just feed them strait to the siamese fighter

best food for them in myo

but he only gets them twice a week

I have heard them called glassworms too.

Hey wen I first started to care for fish ( community fish) I used to feed my platys, mollies, and Guppis and Barbs mosquito larva. Till one day I had put the larva in a big buck of water and closed it, my mother wen there the next day or so and she opened it and all the mosquitos came out went in the house and we all had fevers for like one week. and that was the end of feeding mosquito larva.

Im sorry that just reminded me of the box full of grasshoppers in the fancy hotel incident when I was a kid

Glass worms are actually a type of midge larvae that turn into vegetarian insects.
