Moss Ball Question.

Feel free to post my PM and get feedback, on what I told you...I just was not feeling it that day. Lots of mis information in this thread. Straitjacketstar showed me the light as far as moss balls go, and moss walls. She has moss spread on wood, and on the substrate. Shoot her a PM and ask her to post some pics up...If you are nice, she just might do it.

lol, thanks Spizz, heres what you sent me....

www.azgardens.com is where I got my moss balls. The only other place who has been able to get them is www.liveaquaria.com People talk bad about both places, but I had great success with both. Shipping on plants is super cheap, because they can be sent ground mail. The stuff "real" moss balls are made of (they are actually hand spun out of the material that free floats in the regions they are found, and referred to as souvenirs) they are endangered and collecting them is illegal. if you got some, you could get some egg crate, and fasten little pieces of the ball all over it. It will spread and create the wall you want. There is another ball out there that is blatantly FAKE. It is moss wrapped around a Styrofoam core. Morimo balls are not moss at all, they are algae. Hope this helps, and good luck bro.

i found it helpful.

Sweet spizz :D

I started with just a small tuft that came as a contaminant in a plant order. I wedged it into a crevice on a small piece of wood and 5 years later that one small tuft turned into this:

I've seen it used elsewhere to carpet wood, as groundcover and background as well. It works beautifully as groundcover as it looks like a clean miniature lawn. Starting out with a good amount you can easily cover a background or substrate and all you have to do is wait till it really takes hold, takes off and fills in the rest.

Take a look around the AGA contest pages. You'll find lots of inspiration there.

would you need a co2 injection for the moss?

Nope! And next to no light. They are forgiving. They do not like much salt. And I squeeze my balls at least once a month....they have stayed round for over a year now because of this.
