ball of moss....plecos love them! they dont grow very fast and they are kinda neat. only down fall i have had is that it makes long off shoots. pull those off and you will have a great ball of moss.

also if you have some small egg layers they like to lay eggs around them. i used to tear my ball open and then the lil guys would lay egss inside them.

Thanks Bigg081. If I pull the off shoots off will that make a new moss ball?

I might be completly wrong but I think I read somewhere that they are round because they are rolled by waves on the shore. If they sit in one place too long they will start to flatten out.

Thanks throttle, I hope they dont lol, they kinda cool looking. Thanks for the info so far guys, hopefully i can get more info soon ;) .

i would agree, they just dont look natural in a ball like that, never seen it that way here

Do you guys think they will grow on the driftwood? I bought these moss balls in ny when i was there. It was really crowded so i didnt get a chance to ask too many questions about in lol. Thanks everyone for the info. :)

They will grow on lava rock, I've never really tried driftwood, but I ripped a piece of one and now its starting to grow all over the place in my tank. Another downside is they tend tto be real messy if you have plecs, who will shred hem every once in a while, but no real harm done except the little moss ball pieces floating around. I really love the way they look in a planted tank
