Moss Balls

These are marimo moss balls and no they are not man made. They are formed by the constant rolling on the bottom of Lake Akan in Japan due to under water currents. Marimo balls are supposedly able to rise and sink in response to columns of light due to photosynthesis. They need temperatures below 25 degrees to thrive. Rinsing the ball occasionally with running water and rolling it between your palms will keep the ball in a spherical shape.
 
Cool, thanks for info sohfatfish. Now when you said occasionally rinse and roll in the palm of your hand, is that once a week, month, days? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Once again thanks everyone for info and input.

i tore up my moss balls and i let is sit on my drift wood... and then it took over and i have moss all over my drift wood... it looks really kool and the plecos and the shrimp love it
 
Cool i think i will rip mine apart and put it on my driftwood and see how i like it. Thanks shounen.
