Moss Balls

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not at all they are basicly java moss in a ball they dont need alot of light, and are excelent nitrate sponges for improving water qaulity

They need at least 2 WPG. Moss balls are actually a type of algae and I haven't had a problem with the other type of algae that grows on your glass since putting moss balls in my tank.

marimo balls

They can survive in low to medium light tanks but wont grow much.they do alot better in more intense lighting.

There are two types...The ones at petco are moss wrapped around a styro cork...The other type are morimo ball replicas...Actual morimo balls are endangered and illegal to keep. The "replicas" are made by hand rolling the same algae that morimo balls are made of into a ball...It is essentially the same thing that happens to form them naturally, only much faster. Long story short, both types are cool to keep, and need next to no light at all.

Great. I'm getting a few today. Is it true you can stick it onto logs?

yes, but it takes a long time for it to stick. more light will make it grow/stick faster.
