Which piranha's tend to be the most active besides elongs..I know it really depends on the conditions that a fish is put in, but which species do keepers have the best luck with, swimming wise.

none, piranha arent active fish.

I don't think it's so much the conditions, but more of the fish it's self. In my opinion a shoal of Pygo's will move around quite often. I've seen Elong's that don't move around at all, so you never know. Good luck!

I have had good exp. with RBP, as long as they are raised correctly, and try adding dithers, maybe silver dollars or Tin foil barbs

I would keep a steady school of barbs, maybe something cheap and fast in the water to keep the P's active.. I buy about 30 Neons twice a week and keep a steady school of about 50 in there.. The P's love to chase em around.. Another option is increasing the current and amount of plants and wooden obstacles.

my elong is pretty active. he can be chill at times but there are usually dithers in his tank. ass for P's besides them i would have to say a shoal of pygocentrus caribe.

its really down to the individual fish imo especially with serras.
i have had a rhom that was real active and others that were not.
i had a maculatus that never moved but a small spilo that was nuts and moved quite a bit.
for pygos i had reds that never moved from the corner or wood for days on end yet had others that would always move around same with caribe and my piraya.
you never know what your going to get.
the thing i recommend is if your buying from a lfs pick out the most active fish if you buy without seeing it then its all down to luck.

That's a lot of money a month in neon's.

thats what I was thinking, unless you know the store owner and are getting them at a good price, but still wow, thats gotta add up. I bet the tank looks pretty sweet though!

Like fatsolomon, most piranhas in general are not active. Though it also depends on individual fish.

To give them an encouraging hand (not literally), add a very strong current to the tank. Then add some small fast ditchers, and of course shoaling fish need a shoal.
Feeding little and often (at unscheduled times) also keeps them on their toes (again not literally).
