wow a whopping 4 choices. there are tons of these threads.

I've had every fish named on this list and a full grown buttikoferi is meaner than a red devil, so are festae , trimaculatum, dovii, and adult umbrifrium..now don't get me wrong i had a 15inch red devil who was extremley aggressive,. but at the same time i also had large buttikoferi and dovii not mention trimacs that were absolutly insane...but actually for size if i had to pick the meanest cichlid it would have to be the good old cichlsoma nigrofasciatum[Convicts] they have the best adaptability and i've seen them try to fight fish way way bigger than themselves. and i'm amazed folks said red devils are the meanest. I've kept cichlids for well over 20 years and has mixed many many species including species that are from the great rift lakes..

I would have to say its between a buttikoferi or a reddevil. My reddevil has killed a peacock bass that was 15 inches when the rd was 8 inches. My buttikoferi is just crazy period,it was smart as a whip.It would pick up large shells from snails and attack them until the snaill fell out from stress. It also attacked a painted turtle in attempt to guarding its eggs............and get this the turtle wasent even near the eggs.Matter of fact the turtle wasent supposed to be in the tank it was just in there temperoraly because of a waterchange.

It all depends on each individual fish. I have a vieja that is wicked mean, and a jag that is a completely passive pussy.

Hopefully you have a bigger tank for the butti in the near future.

...and yet you are still keeping a rd with an oscar? Two more inches on the rd and he may be the only fish in your 75 G. I don't want to sound overly condescending, just cautious. I had my two O's (9 and 7") in with my RD/Midas (6") and one day he just snapped and was going to murder them within minutes...fortunately I was off that day and witnessed the beginning and was able to throw the rd in a 55 that was recently setup before he could do too much damage. From my experience, O's just don't have the parts to defend against an agitated RD/Midas, even if the killer is smaller.

i cant beleve some people think a redterror would kill a full grown reddevil
