Next year I will be building a 500+ish gallon indoor pond/tank. I was planning on some big silver arows etc, but ive been thinking about how much heating the pond will cost in an unheated basement SO im looking into cold water monsters now! :headbang2

Obviously tiger musky and bowfin come to mind but what do you guys think are the most monster!?

maybe bass or gar

How cold will it get? If you're into muskies and the like, go with pickeral. 500 is too small for pikes (at least the ones I know... never having seen one in the wild). Sauger would be cool. Suckers don't have the machismo that some fish you're thinking about do, but would be cool in a big tank. Bass, sunfish, cats... all possibilities. What about a big American Eel? Personally, I'd go bowfin and maybe goldeye/mooneye for that Jurassic feel. As for cats, I'd go with bullheads because they will not outgrow a 500. 500 is a big tank, but is too small for real (capital M) Monster natives. Don't get me wrong, I'd go nuts with a 500 gal native tank, but there are plenty of cool fish around that aren't the big sexy fish you see on the covers of fishin magazines.

I have no problem housing a muskey what so ever...when it gets to big...ill eat it! ha ha so dont worry about any fish that will outgrow the tank...unless its like a bullhead...not so tasty.

im thinking Amia Calva for sure if I can get my hands on one...or some

What else would be cool though?
