Most aggressive feeder?

Exodons locally are $10/ea  1.5g per exodon I'd say would be nice, 2g if your feeling generous. If you know a LFS in your area that carries them or at least can order them, go in and talk to the manager or owner and see if you can make a deal. Sometimes they are willing to negotiate. I told the owner of the one by me that I don't want to get fish for free but I don't want to pay 100% mark up. Usually won't work if you want one fish but if you go in and say you want 3 dozen they might be more willing to work with you. It's all in how you approach them about the subject. Kill 'em with kindness

Good idea. And at the $8 per fish I have quoted right now, that's $400 to fill the tank if it's a 75 gallon - yikes. A FW barracuda might be a bit more in price range. I could either do that or get a 40 breeder and it would be around $200 to fill it which is still really expensive.

I had a pacu for 7 years that grew to 27" before I was able to rehome him. Talk about a pig. I used to feed him left over bait (whole squid) from fishing. He would down 7 or 8 squid like candy. Would outgrow a 75 gallon tank in no time.

I have 16 in a 135 gallon and while they are super active. I believe they are overrated. Mine don't feed aggressively like I've seen on some YouTube videos. Maybe my group is not big enough and I'm not willing to pay $14.99 a piece at my lfs. When I still had my redtail barracuda, it fed aggressively but spooked easily. Loved both of them but if I had to choose I would say exodons because they are always actively swimming.

That was my original plan, however if I were to get something that could house a pacu for life I would have to keep some benthic sharks in it, no way I could dedicate it to a single fish.

Wow,ten bucks each!.....I'm used to seeing them for five or six bucks when they are around.

Really? That much. Holy cow. They're $3.00 a piece at our lfs.

I have another idea here - an african biotope. The star of the show would be a congo puffer, one of the coolest looking puffers I've seen. It would share a 30 breeder with a senegal bichir and a ropefish. There would be some plants, not sure if I would do african plants or not - I've got to find cheap ones somewhere.

How about some Congo tetras? They have similar behavior to the exodons.

That'd be cool, a 40 breeder african biotope. I was considering them with the congo puffer but there's not much that can live with a congo puffer. I'd much rather have the congo tetras. Was considering setting up a separate 20 gallon for them, might do just them instead.
