Most aggressive fish for 40breeder

some may not agree with me, but I suggest a flowerhorn. not just a short body
as long as filtration is excellent and theres lots of water changes, the 18" depth is fine for a flowerhorn for several years.
breeders in thailand raise these guys in small divided tanks so they will be lucky to be in that tank solo

My personal opinion is that you aren't going to find a super aggressive fish hat will fit in a 40. Most get much larger than what a 40 would allow. Having said that, a wolf fish might be possible. Beyond that I too would suggest something that breeds. Breeding fish are the only thing I can think of that will display the kind of aggression he is looking for.

Edit: I missed Ionz's comment of a puffer and I would second that for a solo fish and dismiss the wolf. The puffer could live quite comfortably and they generally tend to be aggressively territorial.

Fahaka but I believe they will out grow the tank.

i'd have to go with a shoal exodons. i have five in my 38 gal, even watching them eat flakes is quite entertaining. i hardly ever feed them feeders but when i do its very violent.

im going exodons as well, not a solitary fish like he wanted but a wolf pack in there own rights. just as good as piranhas or so i've heard without the skittishness or tendency to hide out whenever your around the tank; plus those guys are the cliche predators everyone wants
