Most colorful wolf

Haha I would love a black or aimara but unfortunately that's not gonna happen in the 40 and I'm not sure when I'll set up another big tank again but my buddy sent me pics of this wolf that's at his lfs. Can I get an ID? He says its a Peru and they're asking $50 so I wanna make sure it can live in my 40 for life. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1398799109.121486.jpg

Yeah it looks like an sp peru to me, not much info on em but they say they get a lil longer n thicker then normal erythrinus

Should be okay in a 40 for life as long as the dimensions are wider and longer vs taller

Comparable to normal erythrinus, they are mean and you should be careful with your hands as I have a scar from my red latching onto my pinky still visible over a year ago. As they get older the aggression lessens greatly ime, as does the jumping. I'd reccomend lining the bottom of your lid with something soft like Styrofoam or fabric canvas so your friends don't give it the nickname bloody face like mine

It'll also save you a lot of having to salt the tank and treat with anti bacterial.

As for tankmates its going to be experimental, mine has a habit of decapitating silvery fish, he's done it to 2 needlefish, 2 arcara threadfins and a g. Brasiliensis. He does well with bichirs though, and when I babysat my friends couple fla gars for a weekend while he moved did fine with them.

Basically fish that can hold there own and have tough scales, I would even put them behind a barrier and if he went crazy trying to get at them I'd remove them. Don't let it get too hungry though that's how you lose tankmates haha also you will be surprised the size prey they can choke down. At 4 inch mine would eat adult mollies I was breeding

Yes!!! This is exactly what I like to hear! I'm not even trippin about tankmates cuz he's gonna be with 2 bichirs that are pretty aggressive themselves. I hope I can find time to snatch him up this weekend then.

Just don't put in anything smaller than the wolf, unless you want it to get killed and then want to have a scavenger hunt for the remains. :P
 
I keep several smaller fish with my group of Ery. peru. If they are well fed and the setup is good they will tolorate a variety of tank mates. I have never had them try to attack me when cleaning the tank they go and hide. I have kept a smal senegal poly with since he was around 6" and the wolves have taken a couple chunks from it's tail they generally leave it alone. I personally think Ery. peru are one the more colorful wolves. Here is aof one of mine showing some good coloration.
