why do wild arowanas have drop eye then?certainly there water quality is good.

mine seem to get it after a year in age,two out of five still have perfect eyes.

i don't think it's age so much as length..or size. when arowana are at a certain size they get a little skittish and start bonking their heads on whatever it is that we put over their tanks to keep them from committing suicide.

I've heard so many different arguments for possible causes of drop-eye:

Overfeeding
Inbreeding
Covered tanks
Injury by jumping/hitting decorations
Distance to objects in the room
Chasing live food in mid-tank level

...and I know there are more. Too bad there isn't some way to prove the true cause.

i have found that if u put floating balls or something of the sort for them to look at they have a lot better chance of not geting it. havent had one with d-eye yet. and i have had a few.

I've heard of that method before. I would think the aro would eventually get used to seeing the floating balls and not pay attention to them anymore. I've never tried it though. Anybody else had this work for them??

If floating object can prevent droopeye, there wont be question like this here.:D And droop eye can develop on fish at any stage of their life. No fit age.
