Forgetting the background/not painting it before setting up.

OMG, yes. I also forgot to do one last swipe with Windex before filling the tank, then noticed when I put up the background that the cat must have been licking the glass because there were streaks all over. It looked like butt until the plants got tall enough to hide it.

Not thinking everything through:
1. Do I have the money to cover everything (filters, heaters, gravel/sand, fish, etc..)
2. where will I set the tank up at? (is there enough room for you to move and work on tank, can you add something new without it taking a whole day to move the tank because you forgot something)

Vacuuming too often. I killed my bio filter and now am having a tough time keeping my ammonia down naturally. I was vacumming every time I did a water change.

tank to small, cant wait three weeks just sacriface smaller fish, did i really want to paint the back of that tank before i put it in place and filled it up.... take your pick i am guilty of them all at some point and time over the last few years

Not buying a python right away. Trying to do water changes with the bucket method. I could not do it without my python and hose now.
