What's the most commonly used filtration systems on mfk? Sumps-wet/dry or canister, power filters?I'm gonna be ordering my new 150 gallon tank soon and am really torn on whether or not to order it with built in overflows and go the wet/dry route. What is everyone's preference on a tank of this size?Stock will be 1 jag,1 green terror,1 turqoise severum and some sort of dither fish like silver dollars.

My 150G is filtered by a Rena XP3 and XP4. The tank has been set up for three years and has a good size bio-load of large cichlids.

I have a 125G that is filtered by two AC110 HOBs.

Both tank have crystal clear water and the fish regularly spawn.

1 FX5 should be sufficient

I like the simplicity of the fx5. I got my tank used with built in overflows, but I was kind of intimidated by sumps and wet/dry systems so I took out the overflows and sealed up the holes.

An FX5 will serve you well.

I use a simple sump, and I can't imagine anything being easier than my sump....Just lift the lid and change the pad every few months and you're good to go. Its also really nice having the extra water volume to keep water quality up.

sumps are my favorite, adds more water volume, bio is great and doesnt crash as easy, easy to maintain

I just wanted to add:

A sump is great when it is designed to be simple....Keep things simple and a sump will always be the better choice.

Definitely a sump. I even run a sump on my little 57g. I will only use a canister filter on 20-40g tanks from now on!
