Most commonly used filtration systems on MFK?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sump it! but i hate those overflows that go all the way to the bottom inside the tank, they take up too much room. ive really enjoyed my http://www.glass-holes.com/main.sc overflows.

sumps are super easy to build as well. i can put together a sump to filter anywhere from a 50g to a 1500g with a couple totes, bio-balls, and eggcrate in a bout a 1/2 hour.

Do you have a sump tutorial anywhere?

For a tank that size, I think canisters are probably the most commonly used. Sumps are better, but require a lot more work to set up than canisters.

I am the only one I know of that uses it but I have been running my 150 with one Ocean Clear mechanical canister inline with one Ocean Clear bio canister and an inline heater and pump for about 10 years. It is the best canister set up I have ever had and I have had most of the popular options available over the years.

I have three tanks using sumps. On smaller tanks under 75G I use cans, HOB's, sponge filters, RFUGF ;), and corner box filters, though I do have a 65G RR tank with a sump/ fuge.

I like the weirs that go to the bottom of the tanks such as the megaflo's. They may take up a little real estate but on a tank 18" or 24" front to back this is not a problem really. They work well at multiple levels of the tank drawing from the bottom middle and over the top.
