Most Difficult Fish to breed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have also heard that rope fish have been bred, polypterus in general is pretty hard to breed in aquaria, I want to try once I have a proper setup. I'm really hoping my 2 CB teugs from Rapps are male and female

i agree with polys . nver seen them being breed bfore, and as well as plecos :) but ive seen an old lady at my place has a pond full of common plecos and she managed to breed some.

Difficult, but not impossible - so ropefish have been bred ?

There were few cases in aquarium that happened but noone knows (or dont want to tell) what was the cause that they bred :)

Breeding in farms includes hormones and other chemistry that means cheating to me :)

I think this is a good time to rephrase the question to; what fish are the most difficult to breed, but have been bred in captivity? (Let's not bother with the farmed fish - since those are basically wild environment situations.)

Arowana are easily bred...........Many of the giant catfiah are difficult to breed because, well, they are giant..........SOme catfish require muddy banks in order to start courtship and lay eggs..........ATF's are difficult, I would guess having a lot of space for these strong free swimmers for any magic to be happening............Many piranha are diffuclt to breed........Although closely related, the caribe is still rarely bred in captivity as compared to the red-belly pygo(piranha)...........In quick conclusion: Giant catfish and shooling apex predators are the difficult to breed in captivity..........
