Thanks for all the opinions!
After some searching online, I've read about some people insulating it. I will try that this coming winter.

Up next is moving the arowana in lol

You already have it cycled? You use ammonia or seed from an existing tank after adding fish?

As far as brands go... a Watt of heat is a Watt of heat, so there will not be any measurable difference in efficiency between brands. Don't be fooled by one brand's package suggestions compared to another.

I was sceptical at first until I tested them back to back.
The jaegars will do 160-260 gallon the others will not watt for watt. In fact a single 300w jaegar will keep the temp in a 250 gallon tank at no more than 1 degrees celcius when the room temp drops to around 50 degrees F. Two jaegars will keep the temperature at no more than 0.5 degrees celcius drop. It took 3 normal 300w heaters to replicate what 1 jaegar did, 4 to replicate what two jaegars did.

I am a huge fan of Eheim Jager heaters. I use 3w per gallon on all my tanks.

I use twin 250w heaters on my 150g in my basement (ground level though) and it works great.

on a 240g in a cool basement I would probably run three 250w Eheim Jagers.

see my thread about the newest models that are out now in North America:

IMO, they are the most reliable brand out there.

I also have jagers on my tanks, but I am curious.
What "normal" heaters did you use in your head to head comparison ?

2 x chinese brands
1 x hagen
1 x popular german brand (forget the name now :irked:)

All 300w

ive always owned elite heaters, always work amazing for me and all my tanks are in my cold basement my 29 gallon reef is running a 300watt heater temps are always perfect at 10 watts per gallon :) same in my african tank and my others ive tried the jaguar heaters didnt like them returned and swapped for the elite :)

Just popped in a 200W Tetra. We'll see how high it gets over night full blast. I was in a rush and bought this heater without thinking. Currently at 64F. I will be looking into a couple ebo's this weekend. Thanks for all the advice!
